Race For Life

This year I'm taking part in the Race for Life event which is where women of all ages walk, jog or run 5k in the UK's largest women-only fundraising event. You can find an event nearest you here and register online.

I shall be taking part this year in memory of my great friend, Cindy along with a group of women from work and my sister in law. Despite this being a serious event that never fails to make me take stock of how very lucky I am to have my health, it is also fun and a tremendous feeling of camaraderie.

You can do the 5km as quickly or in my case at a more leisurely pace but either way you'll be supporting a wonderful cause and have fun whilst doing it.

Wow, fair play Debs! Sounds like a great event. Are you being sponsored? If so, is there a link to your sponsorship details? If you post it I can sponsor you!

Debs, I take my hat off to you. I have so much admiration for anyone who does any running/ambling for charity. It's a fab cause. Good luck.

That's brilliant. Go you! Cancer Research UK is the main charity I support since both my parents died of cancer. They do fantastic work.

It's a great event debs. Are you going to train or take it at a leisurely pace?
It's not how we do it though, is it? it's the taking part.

yvonne - thanks very much, very kind of you. Last year I registered myself and set up my sponsorship page online but this year someone is registering us all, so when I have the details I shall set it up again online and post about it.

jj - thanks very much, it is good fun as well as for a good cause and I enjoy taking part.

helenmh - They are a wonderful charity. My friend Cindy died a couple of weeks before Christmas last year and my step-father is receiving treatment at the moment so it's close to my heart too. I feel for you though that you've lost both your parents and to cancer that must have been awful for you.

lane - much as I always intend training, I am the least sporty person Ive ever known and will amble the course and chat (if I have the breath to) most of the way.

karen - thanks, there will be several thousand women doing it over here.

Well done Debs. My daughter did it just after my dad died and I could hardly see for the tears and reading the messages about their lost loved ones.

tom foolery - Run? Run? I'm thinking I may should maybe make the most of this date ahead of me and focus on becoming a little fitter (anything improvement has to be good). So may end up doing a fast walk. All you fit people put me to shame.

chrish - thanks. I know, I do find it hard reading these messages and have to concentrate on not getting emotional.
