It's Liberation Day today, and 64 years since Jersey (Guernsey was liberated on 8th May) was liberated from being occupied by the German forces.
We always have a holiday on 9th May, and the sun always shines (or so it seems). So it's out with the flags, yes, us too, and various church services, parties, horse shows, etc.
So, to Dan, Ma, Gerry, Garry, Andrea, Chris & Rob, Andrew, Michael,Dom, Stuart and family, and all those unable to be with us to celebrate today, Happy Liberation Day.

Hope you're having a great day. Jersey was my summer holiday every year as a child, and every year we went to the German Underground Hospital and shivered at the horrors detailed there. Unforgettable. Then again we went to the potteries, watched the glass blowing and took the same walk around St Helier every year too and I'd happily forget some of those bits. Soooo dull on the 10th visit!
Sounds lovely - hope the sun did shine :o)
Sounds great Debs, Hope you've popped your head out of the shed today? ;-) TFx
Blogger seems to not want me to leave comments!!!
Happy Liberation Day, Debs!
Happy Liberation Day. I also visited the Underground Hospital and found it chilling. So happy liberation indeed.
Hope you had a great day Debs! x
enjoy the celebrations Debs!
It sounds great. Hope you had a wonderful day!
Oh! I didn't know you lived in the Jersey Islands! That WW2 story has always fascinated me.

melissa - I certainly do. Any info you need about the occupation, just let me know.
carol - thanks, it was great.
Thanks Debs - was thinking of you, hope you all enjoyed yourselves on Saturday and we raised a glass or two on Sat night. Knew the sun would shine - you're right it always does on Liberation Day - or seemed to when I lived there (nostalgic sigh...) - did you get today off (Mon - sorry a bit late with this!) instead?
What a wonderful wonderful day that Liberation Day must have been back in 1945! And what dark days the people of the islands must have endured in the years before then. I saw some of that history when I visited Guernsey and Alderney.
Thank goodness they never reached the mainland - that doesn't bear thinking about.
Just caught up on your last couple of posts. Its seems you deserved a holiday today after Thursday's 'best intentions' x
chris - unfortunately we didn't get a lieu day, but everything was closed on saturday, although they allowed the shops to be open on the sunday instead.
troy - it must have been incredible to be rescued after all that time. My father was small and left for London on one of the last boats with his mother and brother, so was in England for the war.
fionnuala - sorry about that, I think our comments crossed at the same time.
I had a good weekend and actually managed to press on with the editing. Such a relief.
Hope the sun shone for you!
