Happy Independence Day & Interview

Happy Independence Day.

Today, R will be hoisting his stars & stripes flag - yes, he does have a flagpole, much to my initial embarrassment - as he has family connections to America (grandfather, I think). I shall be on the other side of the island, enjoying a gossip-and-bubble-filled lunch with 'the girls'. We've booked a table at Sumas on the terrace overlooking Gorey bay, which should be glorious, as the sun is shining. I can't wait.

I was interviewed yesterday over the phone by the very lovely Kate Muir of The Times about being a finalist in the Shed of the Year 2009 competition. I was nervous, of course, but she was very friendly, and I ended up chatting to her all about the Romantic Novelists Association, Novel Racers and my online writing groups.

We discussed my shed, all my bits and pieces in it and what a great space it is to work in. It was only later that I realized I have one of her books, West Coast, bought when I went to London in February for the Romantic Novel of the Year Award lunch, in my tbr pile.

The piece about the Shed of the Year 2009 competition will be published in The Times, in the gardening section on 11th July.

Wow an interview, that must have been so exciting and I'm so jealous. Good luck with the competition I think you deserve to win by miles!

Good. Now we want everyone to pick up what you write in your shed, too. Well done, Debs, looking forwards to reading the article.

so exciting for you!!! hope that gals lunch was full of fun chatter and great food...

looking forward to an American women's tennis final, preferring Venus over Serena. older sister is far more deserving, little sister somewhat petulant. should be a good match, either way, on this day that after so many years on your side of the pond now seems like any other day... :))))

still, I am looking forward to some yummy barbecue!

yvonne - thanks. She was very friendly and easy to talk to, which is good because I was so nervous and not sure what to say.

Lori - thanks. It will be interesting to see what is in the piece (for me, anyway).

fia - I'm looking forward to it too. She was also chatting to 3 or 4 of the other finalists and no doubt the actual winner after 8th.

helen - bemused, rather than exciting, I think. I had no idea anyone other than me liked sheds so much before now.

chrish - now that would be something worth celebrating!

anna - lunch was fabulous, I'm still recovering.

Hope you enjoyed the bbq and the tennis.

carol - it was cool. A new experience, too.

Lunch was great fun.

flowerpot - not quite, but fun anyway.

Congratulations on being a shed finalist, Debs! If possible, could you link us to the July 11 Times article? Your readers on the other side of the pond would love to see it. BTW, speaking of OSOTP, thanks for flying the Stars and Stripes. No hard feelings after all these years? :-)

Kate Muir--why can't we all have lovely, romantic names such as hers.

amanda - poor woman, I waffled on, and probably sounded a little nuts.

kaye - I'm happy to be a finalist, at least this way, they won't publish the photo they have of me looking ghastly (it was one of the better pics too!).

faye - yes, I shall definately do my best for you. No hard feelings at all. My ancesters fought on both sides of the American Civil war (says a lot about them).

I know, that's a beautiful name, isn't it?

Kate Muir's book looks interesting. I look forward to your review of it. I didn't realise you were a finalist in SOTY, congrats. Hope you had a great lunch, sounds like a lot of fun. x

tam - thanks, m'dear.

chad - he probably is. I'm such a traitor.

Thanks.

lane - I may not be included in it, but here's hoping.

She was very easy to chat to, but I must have sounded a little deranged.

DJ - It's really good and I'll review it once I'm finished reading it. Thanks re the shed.
