NaNoWriMo 2009

After much (well a little) contemplation, I've signed up to take part in NaNoWriMo this year for the first time. I've been debating whether or not to as I was about to start writing a book I've been researching for a while, however, a few weeks ago, I came up with an idea for a Young Adult novel and am going to write that for NaNoWriMo, as I seem to work better against a deadline.

I'll give myself November to get the story from my head on to the paper/laptop and then once that's done, I'll get on with the mammoth task of writing the book I was originally going to work on, as I anticipate it taking rather a long time to complete.

That said, I still have to finish my editing, but have have been caught up with weeks of form-filling and generally sorting J out with regards to university. Now that's done, I can press on with my editing and start making headway with my writing once more.

The other day I wrote a list of dates in October, when I have things to remember to do (obviously not including the usual house/work/writing stuff, these are birthdays, appointments, etc): 5th, 9th (two appointments), 13th, 14th (two again), 16th (two again), 18th, 19th, 23rd, 30th and 31st. I just hope I don't forget anything.

How exciting! I've never done NaNo myself (although I might one of these years), but it always interests me to see how other people get on with it. Like Laura says, good luck!

very exciting! Gosh, you are so organised! Good luck :-)

Wow, no pressure then! I wish you loads of luck and fewer appointments in November...

That does sound brave. Good luck with it. Hope you'll give us lots of blog updates.

You're going to be busy for the next couple of months then!

Go Debs!

Oh dear, and I thought you were sensible.

But no, you're just as stark, staring bonkers as the rest of the NaNoWriMo crowd.

Ah well. Have fun.

I must get with the program! See this NaNoWriMo logo on several blogs and never figured out what it was. A commitment to write--blog or otherwise several times per week? If so, that would prompt me to get cracking as well. But the pressure!!

Love the photo of Grumpy on his settee. He almost looks too mellow for his name. :-)

Ooh, I've often fancied signing up to that myself. Good Luck! :-)

Holy moses! Good luck with that. I'd have to drastically change the way I write to do that (but secretly I'd love to.)

I must go and pack...

Good for you. I wish I could be as productive. A young adult novel sounds exciting:) I'd love to find something that my young adult, aka the thug, might read.

Good on you Debs! I'm about to start a new novel and the idea of Nano is tempting but still not sure whether I'm better taking my time? Watch this space...Fx

Good luck. Try not to set fire to your shed, what with all the furious typing you'll be doing!

laura - many thanks, I have a feeling I'll need some luck.

queenie - I've thought about it once or twice before, but for some reason felt the need to actually commit myself this year.

alice - not so organized, as mad, I think.

denise - thanks. I think I'll have to ignore most appointments in November, though saying that, I can already think of three.

helen - not so much brave, as a little mad.

lane - it certainly looks that way.

jan - lol, I think a little sense would go a long way with me.

faye - it's where you commit to write 50,000 words of a new novel starting 1 Nov and ending 30 Nov.

Grumps sits like that every evening whilst watching tv with me.

amanda - you should, though I probably shouldn't be doing this as well as everything else, but I thought it the best way to thrash out this particular book.

jj - you're doing far better than me on the word counting at the mo. Have a great trip.

shirley - thanks, I think I'm a little mad, but there's no harm in giving it a go.

chrish - it would have been lovely to have you with us at El Tico. It was a glorious afternoon.

anna - I know, I think I have my mammoth tasks a little confused maybe.

fia - maybe your YA can read this when I've got it down on paper.

fionnuala - I think it's worth doing, especially to get the dreaded first draft down and out of the head. Or so I'm hoping!

captain - I haven't been doing nearly enough recently, so I'm hoping this will get me back up to speed again. Shall keep a fire extinguisher handy at all times.

liane - many thanks.

suzanne - please do, it will be lovely having someone I 'know' doing it at the same time.

kate - many thanks.

chris - I'm definately a little loopy, but I suppose there's no harm in giving it a go. I think I'll have to have a little faint at the end - if I reach it!!. X

Good for you Debs. And I can hear the determination (or is it hysteria?) in your 'voice.'

tam - many thanks, m'dear.

dj - of course I'll be your buddy. So thrilled you're doing NaNo too.

Gosh, reading that made me feel like I need to sit down and have a cuppa tea! Make sure you make time to do the same! x

Deborah Carr (Debs) said...

kaye - many thanks, I'm probably a little nuts to try it with everything else I'm doing at the moment though.
