I'm tempted to light another fire, although R insists it isn't cold enough, and said he couldn't see the point if I'm in the shed typing. So, not wishing to mess up my beautifully manicured nails (Biogelled this morning) I'm taking my trusty netbook and going to sit in the lounge and work in front of the fire - he also says that I don't recognize the word 'No', and I can't disagree with him on that point.
Uncle Wilco of Shedblog kindly sent me this fab badge. I thoroughly enjoyed taking part in Shed of the Year 2009 competition, and if there are any of you sheddies that fancy entering for Shed of the Year 2010, why not go here and have a look. *whispers* I'm thinking Fia of the Shed and Kat
Sarah Beeny will be one of the judges again this year. You can have a look at the 2009 finalists here
Fiona Robyn is going to blog her next novel, Thaw, starting on the 1st of March next year. The novel follows 32 year old Ruth’s diary over three months as she decides whether or not to carry on living.
To help spread the word she’s organising a Blogsplash, where blogs will publish the first page of Ruth’s diary simultaneously (and a link to the blog).
She’s aiming to get 1000 blogs involved – if you’d be interested in joining in, email her at fiona@fionarobyn.com or find out more information here.

Oh, Wow! What a shed load of opportunities. Humour me;-) I'll sign up for the Blogsplash thingy once I've eaten the family sized tin of Quality Streets. I'll save you the orange ones, not my favourites :-) TFx
We're just waiting for our chimney sweep to come and we'll be popping out to buy some logs later this afternoon!! I love a real fire!! (will be interesting to see what the cats make of it!! They've never seen one before!!)

Oooh a fire...a real one? With wood smoke? Lovely! I want a notebook too, lucky you. Does that mean you'll be NaNoWriMo'ing from the comfort of yoru settee?
tf - the orange ones are not my favourites either, but you know me, I'm never one to look a gift horse/chocolate in the mouth...as it were.
carol - all thoughts of fire have been dashed, carpets were cleaned today, so I now have to wait.
dj - I certainly will, although I'll need to turn the tv off, or I'll never achieve the word count.
we lit our first fire last night - and have the chimney sweep coming on Tues. Possbily the wrong way round but never mind!
I'm puzzled,Debs. What are the advantages for a writer of posting draft chapters of her work out on a website that's open to the general public? Last night I just discovered that susan Kaye, who's written two fan fictions of Jane A's Persuasion (Frederick Wentworth Captain-For You Alone & None But You)is now posting chapter drafts of a third novel. I read the drafts and still bought the finished books but wonder that everyone would.
BTW, I use a fresh manicure as an excuse to not do needed chores all the time! Good decision!
flowerpot - I also lit one the other night (our chimney sweep is coming this friday) but have to wait until then now as R cleaned the carpets on Saturday.
faye - I can see what you mean, and probably wouldn't post my own, in case people thought they were rubbish :)
A good manicure can keep me out of all sorts of jobs. Lovely.
Blogsplashing sounds like a good idea to promote yourself as a writer-- if the book is one you aren't going to publish. Caridad Pinero shares chapters from books on her blog she isn't going to have pubbed. It's good for promotion.
I WISH I had a shed, I'm so jealous!
We've got our log fire burning - it's turned very cold all of a sudden :o)
What's your username on NaNo? i can't find you to buddy up. I'm under DJKirkby.
I think we've only had a couple of weeks in summer when we haven't lit the fire. It's colder here 'oop north'.
I still miss proper coal, though, smokeless fuel just isn't the same.
Good luck with NaNo
xxPat
I LOVE that badge!!
kaye - I suppose it can be a good idea, I'm not sure I'd be brave enough though.
karen - love my shed, and bought a new chair for it recently, so must remember to post a pic (second-hand and not at all new).
dk - will go and buddy up with you on NaNo
pat - brr, that does sound cold. It's still not too bad here, thankfully.
Thanks re NaNo.
anna - good, isn't it?
Oooh, nothing like writing by the fire on a cold autumn's day...
:-)
I'm so jealous of you sheddies! There's a little one in my mom's yard here that's full of junk (probably snakes and bats too). We plan to tear it down but you're giving me ideas!
Speaking of fires, we don't do them inside in the tropics, of course, but I made a big one out of some dried branches and garden rubbish when my niece and nephew visited this weekend and we all had a ball. There's something mesmerizing about sitting and watching those flames.
suzanne - I love the winter for that very fact.
liane - eugh bats and snakes. I'm especially terrified of bats, and hate it when they come around in the summer.
I love watching a good fire, especially outside when it's cold. Lovely.
We have a woodburner but haven't had to light it yet. we had an open fire in our previous house but not here, loved roasting chestnts over it we have one of those copper pans with holes in the base. Good for chestnts but not so good for omlettes lol.
Must try and get the OH to enter his recently finished shed in the 'recycled' category I think. Also good link to Fiona Robyn thanks.
