Little Darlings & Best Intentions

My neice, G (2 yrs) and nephew J (4 yrs old) came to the house to play for a bit whilst their mum finished moving into their new home (uninterrupted views of sunsets across the bay every night - I may move in with them too). J & G were being very good and having taken three small lights (in the shape of balls, that keep changing colour) into my downstairs loo in order to watch the colours change in the dark, eaten their weight in chocolate buttons and collected windfalls from underneath the apple tree, they then decided that it would be fun to climb the tree to shake down more fruit.

Unfortunately, two things happened. One, they climbed the lilac tree instead of the apple and didn't managed to knock down any apples that way, secondly, G got stuck and I had to rescue her. Mind you, as R pointed out, I still took a photo of the poor mite before going to lift her down from the tree.

This is what I had planned on doing today:
- Dropping J & S at bus stop, returning home and going to shed to: work on current WIP/work on edits on HH&S/work on next assignment.

This is what I ended up doing:
- Taking S to the orthodontist. She had a brace fitted yesterday and one of the bits of metal had come away from the tooth. I phoned and told them that it needed regluing and the receptionist said, "Sorry, Mr P isn't working today." I replied, "And?". To which she said, "Well the dentists like to keep to their own patients." I told her that I didn't care who did the work, but that surely they couldn't expect a youngster to spend from Friday until Monday with a piece of metal moving about in her mouth.

Needless to say, I ended up waiting for the appointment, going in with her (the dentist was actually very nice), taking her to school (despite her assurances that she needn't go), sorting out a new washing machine to be delivered on monday as ours has decided to die.

Amount of words typed (apart from this post) - None.

Stuff never goes according to plan, does it. Especially when there are children involved.

Ah yes. I had the day off today and planned to do some writing. In between uniform shopping for TD's return to school on Monday and applying for her Oyster card so she can get the bus, I didn't get anything done either.

I have had those days where I planned lovely evenings of pure writing pleasure. And what happens? The kids or the house or the husband or the pets. Sigh.

But then, there are those days when it all gels together perfectly and I have the most wonderful time writing. Here's hoping you have one of those days VERY soon!

Aw, that photo of your niece stuck up the tree reminds me of when I got stuck up a tree when I was 7 or 8 and my sister had to run for my dad to rescue me! In my mind the tree was ENORMOUS but in reality it was probably tiny. I still remember feeling absolutely terrified though!

Oh, that's horrible - when you have a whole chunk of time to write, and it disappears down the tube. Big sympathies.

Writing your post is still writing, though ;-)

Hi Debs, I wanted to stop by and thank you for visiting my blog. I hope you'll come back soon. And I can totally relate to your post! I planned on writing all day today; instead, one of my email addresses decided to stop working, so I've spent four hours on the phone with hacks trying to figure it out. Finally got it working, but three days of mail are lost somewhere in cyberspace. And now it's time to go pick up the kiddos!

Can I join the '0' words club as well? My excuse is a bad cold and a poorly cat.

Life happens doesn't it? Soon the little darlings will be back to school and we will have to come up with even more inventive excuses!

Time is never your own with kids, especially small people!
Cute kids though.
I have started my diet today, but I wouldn't mind the challenge of eating my weight in chocloate buttons!

Oh Debs, the bit I related to here was you taking the photo of your neice BEFORE rescuing her. Me too! Oooh, hang on, Blog opportunity...

LOL yes, jj, I must admit that made me giggle too! It's the kind of thing I would do (but don't tell anyone!!!)

wordtryst - you can say that again.

tam - it can be a bit frustrating, but after family visits etc today, I intend writing. We'll see how it goes.

melissa marsh - yes, I'm sure I'll get one of those days really soon, they make up for all the other non-productive ones.

calistro - I remember one of those too, but I was stuck up a ladder even though I only had to climb back down. I think it was then I realized that heights and me didnt go together.

leigh - I suppose that's true.

helen hardt - thanks for visiting, I shall certainly be popping back to your blog too.

So frustrating for you to have to spend so much time sorting everything out, what a complete pain. Glad it's all fixed now though.

helenmh - poor you, worrying about your cat can't help either. I hope you both are better very soon.

kate lord brown - lol. Mine are back at school, I think I'll always find something distracting and it's usually them.

mickmouse - best of luck with your diet, I really should be following your example but R gave me a box of Maltesers yesterday, which was kind in one way, but cruel in the other as he knows I'll definately eat them all.

chad - I had to, mind you apparently the bit that they trimmed is sharper although shorter than before and she's sore!

jj - aren't I dreadful? R was stunned that I stood there shouting, "G, look at me," before rescuing her.

christina phillips - it's good to know that I'm with other like-minded people. Thankfully her mother laughed when I told her.

Climbing a lilac tree by mistake sounds like a story out of an Enid Blyton book. Love it!
Great pictures, shame about the zero words. I'm a member of that club, too.

pat p - It does, doesn't it. I shall have to have a think about that.

I've made up for it today, thankfully.
