Left-Handers' Day & Being On Holiday

Being a Left-Hander, and having two left-handed children and two step-sons, and an aunt who are the same, I thought it only right that I wish any others of you out there in blogland, a very Happy Left-Handers' Day. To read more about being left-handed, quizes, and other interesting info go here

After an intense two weeks back at work I now have the next two weeks off (well, 18 days to be exact). I can't wait. I have a lengthy list of short stories I should be writing, competitions I want to enter, putting into practice all that I learnt at Caerleon, oh yes, and spending time with the three teenagers in the house. When they're here that is.

At one side of our house is a wall and behind it grows an Elderberry hedge which before being hacked down (on Saturday, sob) was over twenty feet tall. I loved it, but R didn't and even made coffees for the chap with the chainsaw. Anyway, as if that wasn't bad enough, I noticed that all the branches have been dragged into a heap and someone attempted to set it alight. It didn't do too well, but no doubt they will have another go and burning it tomorrow.

The thing I don't understand (okay, so you're wondering how I can actually pinpoint only one thing that confuses me) is that when there is an enormous field, why would someone choose to make a bonfire 12 feet away from a (my) shed, and my house. R came to the rescue - or could it be that he couldn't stand me whining any longer - and phoned the farmer asking him if they could move it away from the house. Thankfully, the kindly farmer agreed. I'm hoping that at some point I will be able to look at a bonfire from a comfortable distance, and not feel the heat of the darn thing as I type.

I'm left-handed too but am unique in my family. I was a tad disappointed when Troy Junior turned out to right-handed. I did'nt know it was LH Day today. Best wishes from one left hander to another!

Happy left handed day from a right hander. Am a left footer, does that count? :)

Bonfires: It may be only 12 feet away from your house - but it's as far as possible from his!

We have the same problem here: damn great stud to choose from, so they burn their evil-smelling rubbish right on our boundary.

The words I'm, All, Right, and Jack come to mind.

My mother is left-handed and had hoped that one of my children would be. Unfortunately for her, it didn't happen. All three are as hopelessly right-handed as I am.

I'm married to a left hander and have an ambidextrous Dad and son which I think might be more difficult than just being left handed...

Happy left handed day to you.

Ooh, I'm left handed too! Happy left handed day!

YAY for left-handers (guess what, me too) and YAY for holidays!

Happy Left Handed Day hon. I'm slightly ambidextrous...I think because when I was young my Mum always took things out of my left hand and put them into my right!!

I have a left handed mouse at work. It's very entertaining when the IT staff try to do something on my computer, with their left hand and all the buttons backwards!
I hate bonfires, they make me wheeze and are sooo inconsiderate. Hope he changes his mind and you're left in peace.

my husbands a left hander as well though he's a bit ambidextrous (sp)!

troy - thanks. There are so many left-handers in my family, and step family, that surely it must say something. Not sure what tho.

lwm - of course it counts, thanks.

jan - thankfully Rob phoned the farmer and he agreed that for the bonfire to be moved away. It's not that far to be honest, but better than it was.

chad - your poor mother being the only one.

jj - more confusing certainly.

amanda - so much in common with each other.

queenie - and yet another one, yay.

carol - they did try to make everyone right-handed for some reason. Probably because it's easier to write, use scissors etc.

denise - I never knew there was such a thing, although I've used the mouse at work on both the left and the right side.

flowerpot - I can't believe there are so many of us out there.

One of my daugher's is a Leftie and I still feel sad about the way she has to hold her pen to avoid smudging her work - it reminds me of an incident at school when she was finally excused having to use a fountain pen.

So glad your shed is alive and well!

Very odd about that bonfire placement! Thank goodness R saw the right thing to do... :))) The shed comes first!

I have four siblings, two bio, both left handed. No one else in the family is, and my three are all right handed. Such a funny thing! Wishing you and yours a very happy Lefty Day!

I'm a lefty, but the only one. Strangely though I only write with my left hand, do everything else with my right!!

Darn it, I missed this post, which means I missed LH Day. I'm left-handed, too. What a lot of us there are. It's a sign of genius so I've been led to believe. :o)

18 days off! Oh, I should be in HEAVEN if I had that!!! Enjoy yourself!

Belated happy loeft hand day! Am glad the farmer listened.

Belated happy LH day! Bonfires are so annoying. Why do peple feel compelled to light on on the sunniest, warmest day of the year? Hope you enjoy your 18 days off. I've just got three more days to work and then I'm off for 2 and a half weeks too! I'm a bit worried about my very first Novel Racers post, though, due on 4th Sept while I'm away on holiday!

By the way, I've subbed The White Cuckoo to the RNA New Writers' Scheme (and my nails are now bitten down to the quick with nerves). How long did it take yours to come back, Debs?

chris - I hated having to write with a fountain pen at school, but now love using them, especially as I have ones that suit me and aren't all scratchy.

anna - I know, it was quite fascinating (and not in a good way). They'd built another fire further along the field next to a neighbour's garage when there was no reason to.

claire p - me too. Left hand for writing, right for everything else.

shirley - must be a sign of genius, what else? :)

melissa - thanks, I'm loving it.

casdok - I was surprised too, and relieved.

Thanks, it's bliss not having to think about work.

annieye - I had to run upstairs and close all the windows, and take stuff off the line as we didn't know when exactly they would light it.

It is nerve-wracking writing the NR post, but they're all very kind, so don't worry. I'm sure you'll be fine. (Hope you have a great holiday).

Re the NWS report, it took about 3 weeks to a month to come back, although I did send mine in May and it will be much busier now, but that's usually about the time it takes I think. Best of luck with it.
