Romantic Novel of the Year Awards

The Romantic Novelists Association (RNA) have announced the creation of their Pure Passion Awards consisting of The Romantic Comedy of the Year, The People's Choice Award and the RNA Romantic Film of the Year in celebration of their Golden Anniversary.

You can read more on the RNA blog
and also at the RNA's gorgeous new website. Read the shortlists here.

The winners of these awards, as well as the Romantic Novel of the Year Award and The Love Story of the Year Award will be announced at the Awards Luncheon being held at the Royal Garden Hotel, Kensington High Street on Tuesday 16th March.

I was sitting at my computer checking flights for 16th, and was unable to shift a nagging feeling that this date rung a bell somewhere in my subconscious. I then realized that one of my biggest clients is travelling to the island on 16th and I'm having dinner with him and a couple of Directors, followed by a meeting the following day with them and advisers who will be flying over to join us.

So, guess who won't be able to attend the lunch. I have to admit that I'm still arguing with myself as to whether I dare attempt to go, but know that I'll have a lot to prepare for these meetings, and can I possibly chance my flight being delayed and not being able to make the meal?

Ah well, if I really can't make the luncheon, at least I'll still have my copy of Loves Me, Loves Me Not, the RNA Anthology filled with over 40 stories from such eminent authors as Christina Jones, Katie Fforde (RNA Chair), Joanna Trollope, Victoria Connelly and Anita Burgh. You can buy your copy here.

Oh what a shame. But at least you are going to miss the sight of me being a nervous wreck on the day! LOL
Hope you enjoy the RNA anthology and the weather is a tad warmer with you than in chilly Hampshire.

Oh I'm sorry Debs. Timing is lousy isn';t it sometimes?!

nina - I'll be so sorry not to be there. Isn't it typical that I'm going to miss the 50th Anniversary luncheon too? So cross. Wishing you luck though. x

Flowerpot - I know. I couldn't believe it when it eventually dawned on me.

Aarrgghh, one of the worst kinds of double-booking. But well done for working it out BEFORE you booked the flights.

That's bad timing. But as Queenie said, at least you noticed in good time. I probably wouldn't have realised until the day before or something.

Oh no, what a shame. How understanding are the directors?

Oh bum! That's typical, isn't it? Mind you, living here means I can't come and go at the drop of a hat, but I do hope to make at least one meeting this year.

Maybe I'm being wicked, but the scary things are often the most fun! How reliable are the planes in and out of Jersey usually?

queenie - very good point. It cheered me up a bit. Also glad I realized before buying the ticket for the lunch.

helen - it is a relief.

jj - they're both great chaps, but unfortunately I can't change the date of the visit.

chrish - I do hope we get to meet up at one of the meetings. I'm definately going to the conference this year.

denise - the flights are fine, but it depends on the flippin' weather. Cross-winds and fog are the worst things and do happen fairly regularly.

Sods law strikes again! Maybe next year.

Well bummer. Don't you hate it when the day job interferes with the important stuff? ;-)

Sorry-- sometimes things just don't work out like we want them to do. But like you said, you still have the book! Sounds great, by the way.

sheepish - I know. I still can't believe it.

melissa - it shouldn't be allowed :)

kaye - I know, never mind. I'll just have to find out third hand how everything went. Can't have everything I suppose.

The book is wonderful. Great stories and a lovely cover.

Maybe if he's one of your biggest clients he needs to lose weight, skip the dinner and let you go off to your event?

Maybe you should see how they'd feel IF you told them what you're missing....how special it is??
Sometimes folk say afterwards:" OH! IF only you'd told me...!" Worth a try???

Deborah Carr (Debs) said...

troy - if only.

jan - unfortunately this is something I won't be able to miss, which is such a shame.

I think you're very sensible to not go to the lunch if you've got a big client to meet. You know you'd get caught if you tried to sneak away.

I shall pray for an internvention of some kind so you can go to the ball... well lunch.

I like the sound of the book. Will have to make way for a copy :)

Such a shame, but I've heard that book's a good 'un. I have a copy in one of my tbr piles.
