Here's Grumpy proudly showing off his handiwork in the fight against the mole invasion. The hole doesn't look that big in the photo but it was about a foot deep and almost as big as him and despite his valiant efforts he caught absolutely nothing at all.
Later that day, I noticed the moles had changed tactics and were now on manouvers straight up the middle of the back garden, so whilst R was out I took matters in to my own hands and phoned the mole man who has now been given the responsibility of making my garden mole free. He's been coming since Friday, it's now Sunday and although I can see he's been again this morning, we still have the little critters doing their utmost to turn my once loved lawn into something resembling the Somme after battle.
R keeps wandering into the garden to inspect the mole man's progress and announcing that he's (so far) fairing no better than Grumpy, but I think R's simply miffed that someone else is now in charge of his garden, well the mole fighting part that is.
I've submitted a short story and am working on the rewrite and although I'm loving my characters, I'm battling with the plot right now and not sure whether I'm happy enough with it, so much more work is needed there still.
Happy Spring Bank Holiday to everyone, here's hoping we manage to get a little sunshine some time during the day.

well done on the short story and god luck with the rewrite
The Mole man? THE MOLE MAN? Please tell me you haven't got Mr Grihault in?
Sunshine on a Bank Holiday! No chance of that!!
Good Luck with the Story.
Good luck with your short story, Debs!
And OMG on the mess that mole's making of your garden!
I'm intrigued - what does this mole man do? Although, if it involves molecide I probably don't need to know. I have a vision of chess-like tactics in which each opponent tries to guess the other's next move. Please tell me this is what happens?
I spect that's how the Grumpmeister does it anyway - he looks like a dog who's got a lot going on up there...
Oh, your poor garden!! I didn't realise there was such a man as the Mole Man, I've led a sheltered lif, but I hope he manages to succeed where Grumpy hasn't!
Good luck with the short short and the rewrite.
helenmh - thanks, have been working on the rewrite today and making a little progress.
spiralskies - no, not The Mole Man but a mole man and his name is Mr Jolley. I know it's awful but I figured that the moles have a more humane end with Mr J than with the dog.
motherx - we have had some sunshine strangely enough, although it wasn't forecast. Welcome though.
christina phillips - thanks. I know and it was getting worse by the hour, especially with the dog helping dig up the lawn.
tam - I hate to admit it but the mole man traps the moles. Horrible, I know but we had run out of ideas of how to persuade them to move on. Grump's tactics were simply to follow the mounds of earth and dig them up as deep as possible.
maddie moon - the mole man is now making progress and has found two moles, apparently there are another two there still.
The rewrite is coming along slowly.
Have you tried a Sonic Mole Scarer? My mother-in-law's had great success with hers.
Good luck with the writing!
karen - have spoken to R who likes your idea and is going to get one.
Thanks. Dx
Sonic mole scarer...a hedgehog to scare a mole? I like it!
tam - my life is nothing if not confusing!
Oooh, oooh, inspiration for an episode of Dr Who. The moles are really scouts for an alien race of Molemen who live under ground and the Doctor has to save the world by turning his Sonic screwdriver into a mole scaring device. They could film it in your garden, Debs!
This is the point at which TD rolls her eyes desperately and wishes she had a normal mother...
I do have a sonic mole scarer and a mole man - the secret is persistence. But as my Swiss landlord said when I showed him the lawn 'vous avez gagné la bataille mais pas la guerre' (sorry my French spelling is bad.
Thanks for visiting my blog, Debs.
susie vereker - I have a feeling your Swiss landlord maybe right.
tam - LOL, brilliant. I love your vivid imagination and wish I had a bit more of whatever is in your brain. Love the whole Dr Who idea, I can just picture it.
Maybe my brain is picking up some of that inspiration that you have after all.
