Race for Life, bumped bumper and phobic dog

I gather that our company has arranged for us all to wear matching pink t-shirts for Race for Life. I wouldn't mind if they were the same ones that we were given for another charity thing (can't remember for the life of me what it was but it was September-ish last year) however, I'm reliably informed (by a slight colleague) that the t-shirts are great and ... wait for it... slimfit ones. WHAT!!!! Do I look like someone who would chose to wear a slimfit t-shirt? For those of you who haven't had the pleasure(!) of seeing me in the flesh, I can honestly tell you right here and now that no, I am not. Well, I was once, but certainly not now.

I had every intention of losing a stone through all the training I was going to do for Race for Life but I wonder if you'll be surprised to hear that I've done only the teensiest bit. Well, my new office is further to walk from my parking space so I consider that extra exercise.

Talking of my parking space, I sauntered to my car yesterday when a man leaped out in front of me and told me that a woman had reversed into my car. I said an expletive and he recoiled in surprise, I obviously don't look like I use them, I suppose. Anyway, he also said that she was about to drive off until he told her that he thought she should at least leave me a note with her phone number. I checked the piece of paper under the windscreen wiper and she had in fact left her number. Insurance broker contacted, woman duly tracked down. Unfortunately, I have to go back to her tomorrow for her full details as she isn't english speaking, well, she can say sorry but didnt understand what I was saying when I asked for her details.

I shall give her another chance to figure out what I meant by her surname, address and policy number etc but if I have any further problems I shall cart along a workmate who also speaks Portuguese and sort the matter out. I am not easily deterred especially when it's my car that needs fixing.

Update on spider: The coast seems to be clear and I think I killed the swine stone dead with my bug spray. Annieye suggested letting Grumpy deal with the spider, which is a perfectly good idea. Unfortunately about two years ago I happened to see a spider race across the lounge floor quickly followed by Grumpy who had a wonderful second and a half play with it before I managed to find my vocal cords and scream like Jamie Lee Curtis in the original Halloween movie. The poor dog nearly had a heart attack and has since then been as terrified of the eight-legged monsters as I am. I know, I know. Poor little thing (the dog not the spider).

I didn't know dogs picked up on their owners' fears - interesting! I really hope your car is sorted out very soon.

Slim fit t-shirts? Certainly not for jogging in!

Hope you get the insurance sorted out. Good job that man was there and I think your expletive was quite deserved considering:-)

Poor Grumpy. I can quite sympathise. I hope the beastie spider is gone for good:-) I hate them!

I can so say I know how you feel re: spider. Poor poor you. I don't do well with the creepy critters. Don't think I ever will.

Sorry about your car ;O(

Perhaps you could throw the spider at her?

yvonne - thanks, it's a pain and extra running around that I could do without, but I suppose it could be far worse.

Lane - I know, what were they thinking? Slimfit indeed.

I shall go and see the girl again today and take it from there.

elizabeth - what a good idea, if only I had the nerve to pick one up!

Oh Debs, I can empathise with the slim fit T-shirt. Chris's company has a trip planned so we can all bond with each other (I don't know why I get dragged into it - I don't work there....and it's three days....THREE!!). I've been told that I have to wear a company t-shirt along with everyone else....I am a woman and I'm not Thai....their large looks like slim fit on me!!! AND, to add insult to injury, I have to pay for the bloody thing!!! (Harumph!!)

Oh dear. Poor Grumpy, but I did laugh out loud at him being infected by your terrors. I'm still chuckling.

Still laughing at Grumpy. Very annoying about the car 'though. Hope it gets sorted.

Molly-dog barks a good bark, but she's more scared of creepy-crawlies than we are!

Hope your car nightmare gets sorted soon - bloomin' nuisance when things like that happen.

Debs - good luck with Race for Life. I did one a few years ago and it was great fun and moving at the same time. The T shirts are lovely too.

carol and chris - ooh three days, I do sympathise and you have the pleasure of paying for yours too. I would hate all that bonding stuff. Poor you.

jj - I know, poor dog. I really should at least pretend in front of him that I'm not so terrified. Wimp.

chrish - poor little thing. The car is slowly being sorted, I think and at least I now have her details.

karen - Molly looks gorgeous in her photo, I bet she's a wonderful dog and a great character.

motherx - clever Trilby, maybe we could borrow her for a bit. Mind you, poor D that's not such a fun job.

helenmh - I know, it was a bit 'oh dear' wasn't it?

phillipa - thanks, it will be fun but as you say, it's also rather moving too.

Hi Debs, good luck with the Race for Life. I did it too, very emotional but very rewarding.

And oh dear poor Grumpy. I believe you need to buy him some pink ear muffs to go with your t-shirt. That way if you see a spider when you are wearing it... xx

l-plate author - thank you, I have to admit I'm looking forward to it.

Excellent idea and an excuse to go shopping!

I will be doing the Race for life too. I enjoy it every year, though some of the stuff written on the back cards are pretty moving and I feel a bit weepy by the end.

dj kirkby - I know what you mean. I've done it most years too, although I had a bad knee last year so had to give it a miss.
