DJ's Lovely Book & Empty Boxes

One of my favourite things is to arrive home to a box filled with new books. And today, my kindly postman bought me DJ Kirkby's From Zaftig to Aspie.

I can't wait to start reading, and have already had a quick flick through, as you do. But I'm going to make myself wait until I've at least finished the book I'm three-quarters of the way through.

Talking of boxes, well, packaging and being eco friendly more to the point, we ordered a tube thing (yes, I can't think for the life of me what the damn thing is actually called) and it arrived the other day.

R came through to where I was tapping away on my laptop, and said, "Look in there."

So, not wishing to appear more switched off than I usually do, I duly gazed in to an empty box for a bit, then said, "They've forgotten to pack it."

"No they haven't," my very clever husband replied, lifting a flat piece of cardboard and indicating the tiny area at the bottom of the box where the tubing lay.

I couldn't believe it. I thought we were all supposed to be doing our bit to save the planet, and using as little packaging as possible.

I can't wait to read it either!! She read beautifully last night and I have to say that the next two books I shall be reading will be my signed copy of DJ's 'From Zaftig to Aspie' followed by my signed copy of Chris's (a.k.a. Chopper)'Motorbikes, ducks and crispy sweet apples'. It was a great night!!

They sent that wee pipe in all that packaging??

I also can't wait to read DJ's book, and had a FANTASTIC time at the launch last night.

I have just been incredulous over the packaging of lots of things lately. They are wasting SO MUCH. We really should start being more vocal about it and letting retailers know how disappointed we are with their shipping methods.

That's excessive! :O

I daren't even click to see what the book is about because my to-read/to-buy pile is spiralling out of control! Hope it's a good read though!

It's hard to believe that little thing was in such a big box. Some companies need to get a clue. But maybe all is not lost-- I bet puppy will love that box!

My daughter received a tiny pair of earrings in a gigantic box like, just before Christmas. When we sent a disapproving email to the company, we were told it was to avoid them going astray in the post! Tut.

That book looks good though :o)

carol - I've started DJ's book and it's fantastic. I'm loving it.

lane - I'm sure you'll thoroughly enjoy it.

Mad packaging, isn't it?

casdok - you're right, I'm loving it.

lwm - it's ridiculous isn't it?

The book is truly fab.

dj kirkby - your book is wonderful.

The packaging was for the shower tube thing. From the tap bit to the shower head. It needed replacing.

claire p - I couldn't believe it. Even a box a quarter of the size would have been enough, surely.

You'll love the book.

helen - I was so sorry I couldnt make it to the launch, but did think of everyone there (enviously). I'm thrilled it all went so well.

melissa - I doubt they'd use so much if they had to pay by the size as well as the weight of the package.

elle - I know, it's madness.

I know what you mean about your tbr pile, mine (three piles, each holding the other up) is ridiculously high now.

jj - I know, it's so wrong.

mummy - it surely is that!

kaye manro - at least he can fit his bottom in this one.

karen - they have an answer for everything, don't they?

Love, love, loving this book.

My two cats would love that box. How much do you want to sell it for? ;-)

Enjoy the book. TFx

What's the tube for?

I would like one for some DIY liposuction.

The Dottrel - I'm now about a third of the way through the book, and absolutely loving it.

tf - I'll have to pack it in a bigger box and send it on to you.

fionnuala - it's a shower tube that goes from the tap bit to the shower head on the end of the bath.

zinnia cyclamen - well, you would have thought that would have been easier, and probably cheaper to send.

motherx - the book is excellent. I think it's one that I'll end up reading more than once too.

fiona - It's for the shower at the end of the bath.

Liposuction, now that sounds like a good idea.
