Killing basil & happy places

I usually have a basil plant on the kitchen windowsill - I find the smell of the leaves makes me feel happy, Rosemary always does this too - however I keep killing the basil. I'm not sure if they are supposed to have a short 'shelf' life or if it's my ineptitude that causes the demise but I've now replaced the most recent plant with the blue Hyacinth as you can see from the picture.

I woke in a wonderful mood this morning, full of the joys of...well, not Winter, but you get my drift and then my day deteriorated down a slippery slope and despite doing my damnest to be positive I'm in a thoroughly foul mood now. It won't last, it never does thankfully but today there are two grumpy's in my house.

I'm off to the shed to focus on my editing, it will take me back to 1941 but right now that will be a pleasure. Grrrrrrr!

I love your hyacinth pot! I keep basil in the kitchen too but it has to be replaced frequently because no matter how much I use, it still withers. I love the smell though. (and hyacinths too but only the blue ones:-)

Hope the grumps passes soon:-)

A hyacinth that thinks it's called Basil! I love it! Hope you're in a happier place!

lane - maybe basil isn't supposed to last all that long then? The blue hyasinths do smell lovely. Am feeling happier now, thanks.

helenmh - I am in a happier place already, thanks for making me laugh!

Watering basil with warm water works well in the not-snuffing-it dept. I think basil is something of a diva herb though.

Hope today finds you feeling cheerier :)

Hi Debs, I love your shed!!!! How do you have it furnished in there? I ask because I would love a writing 'shed'. Does the new humming heater keep it warm enough? Hope your mood improved yesterday - the grumps are the pits!!!! Thankfully they pass!

Apparently this week is the most depressing week of the year, according to GMTV.

I love hyacinths too. I've got a pink one in my lounge, but it's going over a bit now.

Lots of people have said that editing is as good as writing, but I found it quite difficult. Best of luck with it.

spiralskies - maybe that's where I'm going wrong. I'll remember the warm water for my next plant. I am happier today thanks.

novicenovelist - I have a 1950's oak table against one side of the wall and a round plastic garden table (sounds ghastly) with paperwork on (needed somewhere to store the table & now I'm keeping it). Two chairs - one for me, one for the dog. Loads of niknaks of mine, pictures of family and gorgeous heros on the wall (as well as a clapperboard, chinese calender, terracotta windchime etc). The heater isn't brilliant but does the trick. I'm much happier today thanks. I hate being in a mood!

annieye - I can see why this week is so ghastly. After all the holidays its back to the grindstone, no money, etc I suppose it can only get better (she hopes!) The editing is coming along fine, thankfully and as soon as I've finished I shall go back to my rewrite.
