All I want for Christmas, apart from having fun with my mad, noisy family, is a few days off from my lovely job to laze about, write and read.
The best Christmas present I've ever received was a typewriter that my parents bought for me when I was nine-years-old. I was so excited and although I don't remember typing anything worth keeping on it, I do remember that I wouldn't let my little sister near it.
The very lovely, Cally Taylor has her second book out today. Home For Christmas sounds like my sort of book and having read, and loved, her first book, I can't wait to start reading this one.
Here's the blurb:
Beth Prince has always loved fairytales and now, aged twenty-four, she feels like she's finally on the verge of her own happily ever after. She lives by the seaside, works in the Picturebox - a charming but rundown independent cinema - and has a boyfriend who's so debonair and charming she can't believe her luck! There's just one problem - none of her boyfriends have ever told her they love her and it doesn't look like Aiden's going to say it any time soon. Desperate to hear I love you' for the first time Beth takes matters into her own hands - and instantly wishes she hadn't. Just when it seems like her luck can't get any worse, bad news arrives in the devilishly handsome shape of Matt Jones. Matt is the regional director of a multiplex cinema and he's determined to get his hands on the Picturebox by Christmas. Can Beth keep her job, her man and her home or is her romantic-comedy life about to turn into a disaster movie?
Sounds fab, don't you think? You can buy Home For Christmas here.
So, what do you want for Christmas?

All I want for Christmas is to be the ringmaster in charge of Christmas Day, and this year it looks as if I'll be getting my heart's desire - snow and blizzards permitting, of course, which they didn't last year :-(.
Christmas cake is made and maturing, ditto puddings!
Home for Christmas looks like just my sort of novel :-).
margaret - you sound so organised for Christmas. I wish I could say the same. ;-)
Ha, I used to have a Fisherprice typewriter and endlessly practiced typing 'the quick brown fox' thing that my mum said was the thing to do.
When I went for a job interview in a bank 15 years later, I blagged that I had typing experience. I never did mention that it had been when I was 6, and on a plastic typewriter.
Cally's new novel is so sparkly and fab, you'll love it!
It does sound like a wonderful story!
If I could really have one Christmas wish, it would be to be healthy. But on a purely materialistic level, I'll settle for a few books, some jewelry, and time spent with family.
In our house, we are having Christmas early in December as that is when all my sons will be home. I don't mind at all. So on the 25th I hope to be sitting by the fire, a glass of something to hand, catching up with all the books I downloaded to my Kindle this year but haven't read yet. Sounds great doesn't it?
As does your book Cally!
This looks like a really good read.
All I want for Christmas? Just a lovely, quiet day with family.

Jen- ha, I wish I'd thought of that when I went to my firs interview.
I can't wait to read Cally's book.
Melissa - I hope you do get some of your wishes.
Janice - it does sound perfect. Hope you have a lovely time.
Suzanne - me too!
I am so not ready to think about Christmas yet. Here in the states, I just want to make it through Thanksgiving before I start thinking about the big holiday. But the stores already have Christmas stuff and the town put up their lights this week. :sigh: Every year it gets earlier. Before I know it, we'll be starting the holiday rush in August. LOL
B e - they put up the Christmas street lights outside my office yesterday. I've never been in the US for Thanksgiving, I must do so one year.
