Remembrance Day

Lest we forget.

Ordinarily I wouldn't post about a book on Remembrance Day, but then I thought that it's through books that periods in history stay alive. This book by Leah Fleming, called Remembrance Day is about the Great War and for every copy bought a donation will be made to the Royal British Legion, so for that reason I thought I could do it this once.

I always love the reverence shown in the UK for veterans, far more dignified and meaningful than anything here. I love the poppies...

What a wonderful cause. The book sounds great too.

And we should never forget to remember...

I haven't read the book, but it does look good (sneaky peak) and I'll be reading soon, so can tell you what it's like then.

It's such a poignant day today - I keep using that word, but can't seem to find one I prefer.

It doesn't matter which words we use. What matters is to remember - and never let it happen again.

How appropriate to mention a book which also helps us to understand such a significant time in history, Debs. That's what art is all about, I feel. Earlier this week I realized that I was watching the great film, "Lives of Others" on the same day that observances were being held to celebrate the Berlin Wall's coming down. The film helped me understand what that event meant to the German people.
