Resolutions & Builders' Tea

I received a text from my sister yesterday asking what resolutions I was going to make for 2010. I didn't have to give it much (any) thought, because they will be the same next year as they were this year and all to do with writing. I may add in the odd one about eating less chocolate, but know I won't keep it, so what's the point. (See how I quickly discounted that one?)

I do know that I'll be spending my time (when not with the family, or walking his Grumpiness) in the shed with a cup of tea by my side as I tap away at my shiny laptop in an effort to be as creative as my brain and determination can possibly make me.

Rob is a coffee drinker, but I drink copious cups of tea daily, and was thrilled to find out that I'd won six months supply of Builders' Tea. I can't wait to try it out.

There's a strange scratching/tapping sound coming from behind me. I'm going to have to go and investigate, but if I find something small and furry - that isn't the dog, or next-door's cat on a suicide mission (Grumps hates him) - you'll probably hear me scream from where you are.

PS, it was a mouse caught in a humane trap that Rob put there when he recently suspected we were being visited, but because it's behind boarding (like a false cupboard around the boiler) I didn't know anything about it. Panic calls have been made to Rob and wonderful step-son has now taken the poor mouse out to the field and let it go.

What a coincidence, I just blogged about resolutions too! Wishing you writerly success in 2010.

I'm glad the trap was a humane one Debs! And those sound like good resolutions. I haven't thought of mine yet... though they will include hoping to achieve publication of the novel and getting a piece accepted by one of the nationals. Or several. Aim high, I say!!

Love you for letting the mouse go.
My little dog thinks she's a cat and ccatches them. She doesn't let them go :(

I haven't made any resolutions since I was a teenager, but I think this might be the year to start again! I think mine are going to be very similar to yours, though I think I might need to add one about being a bit more dedicated to the task...

Ooh noooo, not the rattling mice, I remember the couple of times we've had them. Ours seem to lurk in the loft and run across the bedroom rafters about 3 in the morning. (Shudder) Hope that's yours all gone.

Eeeeek at the mouse Debs! My resolutions are the usual ones too....yes, eating less and being healthier is still there, and I'm doing fairly well at the moment and the others are all writing based too :)

Well, you worked really hard last year, Debs, so there's no doubt that you'll achieve the writing aims.. but no one should stint on the chocolate!

Now, if this was a horror blog you would have heard me shouting at you not to go near the strange scratching sound - but you did and one little mouse was very lucky not to have an horrific end to the year!

queenie - have seen your post and left a comment. Here's to a fab 2010 for us all.

flowerpot - nothing wrong with aiming high, good for you.

fia - eugh, my dog barely sniffed the air, which is a relief in this instance.

denise - I couldn't believe it when I started to hear scratching behind me, shudder.

jayne - mine are usually to do with diet and writing, mainly writing of course.

chrish - I do hope to achieve more this coming year, and agree with you about the chocolate.

Now there's a mouse with a happy new year coming to him. Yay.

I posted about some of my goals for 2010, but I'm trying not to call them 'resolutions'. I make resolutions and I fail - miserably. Maybe if I look at them as goals I'll be able to keep them.

Checked out the Builders' Tea ad--how clever! Just the drink to start your creative engines. Definitely not the drink to soothe your nerves enough to be able to free a mouse. :-) I'm with you on that. Couldn't touch or even look at one. They do like to come inside when it gets cold.

Resolutions? Even if we don't keep them, important to make them. I usually think those kinds of deep thoughts on New Year's Eve.

I hope 2010 is a healthy, happy and productive year for you, Debs.

Ack! A mouse! HATE those little buggers in my house. They need to stay OUTSIDE and then I'm fine.

I just have one resolution: to be more focused!

Rob is such a good guy! We just leave out poison... :)))

Yes, I agree with discounting that chocolate resolution, only that in like you, I know I'd not be able to hold to it! As for the tea, oh well done!! I don't know where I'd be without that refreshing, lovely beverage!

Happy 2010 to you all!!

I thought I might try the one that goes "Put Writing First". It won't last, of course.

Amanda said...

Awh, you are so lovely letting the mouse go! And good luck with your resolutions! x

Jan said...

Yes, great you let it go!
And Happy New Year...from another COPIOUS TEA DRINKER! ( just plain Yourkshire tea, actually...)

Mmm? So now the mouse knows not only where food is and also that it will get a lift back home afterwards. I wonder if it will tell all its friends or just keep the good news to itself?

B E Sanderson - I agree with you. I'm going to think of mine as goals and see how well I do with them.

faye - I managed to pick up the trap, but nearly died when the poor thing poked his nose out of one of the holes and soon passed it to my step-son.

melissa - being more focused is a good resolution, I'll have to remember that too.

anna - I love my tea and am looking forward to trying this new one out.

jan jones - that never lasts long, unfortunately. I'm always trying to do it.

amanda - thanks, you too.

jan - same to you. I don't know if I've tried yorkshire tea, must have at some point.

troy - sorry, I must have been posting my comment when you left yours.

When I told R that I'd put the trap back, he asked if I'd put any chocolate in it! No doubt we caught the mouse.

I haven't had any mice running around the house for ages. But I'm sure it's only a matter of time.

Beth said...

You know you have to take a mouse about 2 miles away or it will just find its way back?????

Anyway. Happy New Year and good luck with the resolutions. xx

Oooh, I'm jealous of your win - I never win anything...

All the best for 2010.

I think it's a great idea to stick with your resolutions from years gone by (apart from anything to do with eating chocolate). My only resolution is to work a bit harder at writing.

Love the idea of humane traps - we don't have mice but I could never kill one.

Have a great New Year!

Deborah Carr (Debs) said...

helen - hope he's the last one for a while.

b - what!!! Happy New Year to you too.

suzanne - same to you m'dear.

tam - I didn't know we had traps at all, but am glad Rob used humane ones. Happy New Year to you too.

Chocolate resolutions have never worked for me. Writing ones generally do. You're on the right track!

Happy New Year, Debs!

Liane - here's hoping I am. Happy New Year to you too. x
