Summer Holidays

I've got two weeks off work, hurray! Actually, I like my job, so I don't mind being there at all, but it's so good to have two weeks when I can get up and mooch around, doing exactly as I like with no time constraints. Bliss.

The first few days have been a little manic, but we've had a couple of meals out here and here; I've started, and finished (at 3am in the morning) Lesley Pearse's wonderful book, Stolen, and am now reading, The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society, which I've had for a while and wasn't so sure I'd enjoy until Gerry (my aunt) mentioned how good it was. I'm loving it.

Apart from eating - have also discovered Galaxy Counters - they're far too morish - and reading, and generally lazing about, I want to take in a few sights that I don't usually have time to see. It's always fun going out with my daughter, and also my son, who I want to make the most of seeing before he returns to uni with his lovely girlfriend - she's staying with us at the moment.

I'm going to give myself a couple of days mooching around in the garden, and then it's on with a book I started several months ago, but had to leave to edit a couple of others. Can't wait. I love being in the shed, especially on warm days when I can open both the front doors, lean back in my ancient, pink Lloyd Loom chair and smell the rosemary growing nearby as I gaze out through the trees into the garden. Sigh.

That said, it would be nice if the weather remembered this is August, A-U-G-U-S-T! I thought it was supposed to be a sunny month. So far, there's been a couple of summery days, but not nearly enough. Is there such thing as a sun dance?

Your shed sounds so lovely - you always send contented vibes when you write about it. I've got GL&PPPS sitting here too - keep putting off starting it so will read soon.

The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Society is one of my favourite books, I enjoyed every minute of reading it! I have been trying to be good and not by myself some Galaxy Counters, but, I don't think that will last long :-)

Plus you've had time for a blog makeover, looks lovely. I'm deeply envious of your 2 weeks off, though if I can just struggle to the end of this week I've got next week off too!

Maybe I should use some of the time to do something about our garden, I'm always very envious of yours. Mine has lots of space and nothing much in it. Maybe I need a shed...

OOh you've had the decorators in. Very nice indeed.

I've had GL&PPPS on my pile for ages now but I never seem to pick it up. It's not like I've read any bad reviews of it.

Enjoy your time off. And I hope the sun remembers it's August!

Yes, the blog looks great - bright and cheery.

Hope you have a lovely couple of weeks, whatever the weather it will be good to be off.

Enjoy!

Ooh, I love the new look of the blog, Debs! And I'm so glad you love the The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society book. It's terrific!

Enjoy every minute of your vacation!

Ahh, your two weeks sounds absolutely delightful. I hope it warms up for you. I've not read the Potato .... book yet. When I heard it was a series of letters I was very turned off as I don't care for that format in a book. But I love the title!

I am so envious of your pink lloyd loom chair, in your shed gazing over the garden. It sounds like bliss.

Sounds like a great holiday you have planned. I hope the weather plays fair for you, but if not, enjoy it anyway.

(I'm sure I've heard of a sun dance involving a lot of lying down and eating chocolate...)

I love the new blog look. I feel like I'm in your garden, I can almost smell the rosemary!

You're clearly a woman with impeccable taste if your chocolate of choice is Galaxy Counters so I may have to get myself a copy of The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society. I keep hearing good things about it.

Enjoy your holidays!

Enjoy your time off! I'll join you in a sun-dance, I think August has forgotten how to be August.

Thanks for all your complimentary comments. I'm now getting used to being green, instead of pink and it certainly goes a little better with the shed, although not the Lloyd Loom chair, of course.

Loving The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society. This book gets better and better and really is one to try and read. x

Have a happy and productive holiday! Your shed sounds so lovely, I'm sure I'd never get a scrap of work done in such a relaxing spot.

Oooh enjoy your indulgent hol. Are you going to do NaNo again this year? I'm hoping to enjoy it more this year than last when I got sidetracked by swine flu!

Deborah Carr (Debs) said...

joanne - I'm not doing very much today, mainly gazing out of the doors and contemplating. I do love it though.

dj - yes, I think I might do it. It was sometimes hard keeping up that word count every day, but I have a book I want to get working on and think this might be the perfect incentive to get some of it written. Glad you'll be doing it again too.

Every time I come to your blog, I fantasize about your shed (that's not as dirty as it sounds, promise). Your vacation time sounds fab. I'll do a sun-dance for both of us!

Deborah Carr (Debs) said...

Talli - It is a fab little shed and I do love being in here, so calming.

Hope your sun-dance works soon.

anna - glad you like it, I do too now, though I wasn't sure at first.

I'm enjoying my break, and loving having so much time to write thanks to the lousy weather and not wanting to be outside.

suzanne - many thanks.
