Writing Books & Book Reviews

I cherish the time I spend alone writing - it helps when all three dogs sleep at the same time - and I can lose myself in my latest book. At the moment I'm between books, Broken Faces has been published in ebook format and will be coming out in paperback in the Spring, and I should be receiving edits from my new editor at Accent Press for the fourth book in the series, A Jersey Bombshell. In the meantime, however, I'm staring at a blank page and planning my next book.

I've learnt many things about writing and one thing that I didn't know until a published author friend pointed it out to me a couple of years ago, was that when you post a review to Amazon.co.uk, it doesn't show up on Amazon.com and visa versa.

So, if you want to help an author whose book you've enjoyed, apart from telling your friends about the book, the most visual way for the author to see you've enjoyed his/her book is by posting a review, ie to Amazon.co.uk/Amazon.com. Then copy and paste your review and post it on the opposite Amazon website. It's a huge way to encourage writers, most of whom have severe bouts of self-doubt... like I'm having today.

Happy reading.

All the best with that next book, Debs. Yes, I've known about those reviews for ages but it's difficult to ask readers to do one on both Amazons if you don't know them well enough.

Im always far too shy to ever ask.

Following on from the above comments, at least readers of your blog will know to leave two reviews now! I never knew that they didn't go on both either.
Good luck with Broken Faces and your new book!

I didn't know either, Jean, until another author mentioned it to me when I'd posted a review on her Amazon.co.uk page. It was so easy to copy and paste my review to Amazon.com that I now always make sure to do it.

Thanks very much with your good wishes. x

Oh we all have those moments of self doubt, Debs, don't we? I think it's to make sure we don't get complacent! (Fat chance) Good tip about Amazon though - I didn't know that either. Good luck with the blank page sure it will be filled by now X

Thanks, Flowerpot. Yes, the self-doubt is there with all of us. X

It would be handy if reviews posted on all Amazon sites. Many readers don't bother posting a review and it can be quite frustrating when they message you, or see you in person and tell you they thoroughly enjoyed the book (or didn't!), yet they don't review it.

Blank pages seem to go on forever for me right now - just can't seem to get motivated on my latest wip and I'm annoying myself!!

xx

I agree. I saw somewhere on Facebook the other day that apparently Amazon are trying to find a way to post reviews on all their sites, so hopefully that will be happening sometime in the not too distant future. I'm always so grateful when people post reviews, I'm sure they don't realise how much delight we get from them.

I know what you mean about the blank pages... You will get motivated though, you're a wonderful writer and I look forward to your next book. xxx
