Broken, Interruptions & Indoor Tobogganning

I've started reading this brilliant book by Daniel Clay. I gave a copy of it as a present to A who loved it and read it a couple of months ago and even said that she will keep it and probably read it again at some point in the future (not like her at all). Daniel Clay is also the kindly chap who posted his successful submission letter to the brilliant Jonny Geller here

Today I needed to find out some information from work and ran out of places to look so phoned my friend S on her mobile thinking it a little strange that she didn't answer the call quickly like she usually does. The poor thing phoned me back later sounding far more cheerful than I would have done and apologized for taking so long. Apparently I'd interrupted her cooking some rather fabulous sounding food - in France. Opps.

During the occasional break at work, actually it was at lunchtime, no really. You don't believe me? Neither would I. Well anyway, I was emailing my friend A (the same one as mentioned above) who was describing how some of her colleagues had gone indoor tobogganing (strange word and by the sounds of it strange colleagues too) and were suffering the after effects of it all. We found it hilarious. I looked it up on You Tube and dont think that they were actually doing this. Now is it me or does this man not appreciate the dangers of flying down a staircase on a mattress with a window at the bottom of it (the staircase that is, not the mattress)?

Must read that book, thanks. Think I did some indoor tobogganing at college, we took turns barrelling down the stairs sitting on a tray!

Mmm - was giving me kittens watching that tiny toddler whose head came before fathers.

We've got about one foot and then a sharp right hand bend at bottom of our stairs which would result in very large crash into a three foot depth granite stone wall. Explain that one at casualty!

This indoor toboganning was done on the film 'Princess Diaries 2' but with lots more space and no glass doors to break the fall.

Ouch! Definitely wouldn't work in my house, glass front door at the bottom...

Debs, I confess I use to do this a kid with my brothers, no window at the bottom of the stairs so lived to tell the tale :) TFX

That does look like a good book. Thanks for the recommendation.

Hi Debs,
Thanks for visiting my blog :-)

The book sounds good - I'm just coming to the end of Wife in the North (fab!) and needed a recommendation - so thanks.

As for indoor tobogganing - too, too scary!

casdok - I know, I couldn't believe the idiocy of it either.

yvonne - this is a fascinating read, I can't put the book down.

You're a braver person than I, then again, I was brought up in a bungalow so there wasn't really the opportunity to do it in the first place.

katw - no, granite walls dont make soft landings.

denise - I couldnt believe it when I saw the window at the bottom.

tf - children can be so brave sometimes, though I'm sure I wasn't very.

zinnia cyclamen - it is good, I was a bit late for work this morning because I forgot the time.

annie bright - I must read that one too, I shall look it up.

That submission letter is really helpful!

As for flying down the staircase on a mattress...actually it sounds fun. Maybe not with a window at the end though!

OMG What was that man thinking!! (or not thinking as the case may be!!). I had visions of that small child going flying through the window at the bottom!!

I didn't do indoor tobogganing when I was a kid but I do remember hurtling down a very steep hill on a toboggan with my Mum. We didn't go very straight and ended up heading towards a very large boulder!! Neither of us were able to change the direction of the toboggan so we both ended up face first in the snow!! I remember it being great fun....not sure I would feel the same way about it now!!

karen - it was good of him to post it, wasnt it?

I'm too much of a wuss to do that.

carol - I think I wouldnt mind it in the snow but not down the stairs, too many hard edges. I was horrified when I saw the window too.

Erm... I did some indoor tobogganing as a child and I have the scar in my eyebrow to prove it! Yep, glass front door at the bottom - until then it had all been going very well!

Hi Debs

I have Daniel Clay's book in my to read pile all because of your post re Johnny Geller and the link to Daniels article about getting accepted. I'm 'hoping' that my book two may be gritty urban....

Am in the throes of re-editing book two so will defintely put it to the top of the pile for when I've finished that. xx

No indoor toboganning in this house, cos it's a bungalow. probably just as well to be honest!

chrish - ouch. That sounds like it was a horrible accident, poor you.

l-plate author - it's hard to put down, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. I look forward to hearing more about your Bk 2 too.

helenmh - I was brought up in a bungalow so there was no hope of me doing it.
